Obituary for Velma L. Lucas Velma L. Lucas, 89, died Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Homestead Assisted Living in Garden City. She was born April 7, 1929 in Dodge City, Kansas the daughter of Eugene & Blanche (Rollins) Lewis. Velma grew up in Dodge City where she attended school.

On November 14, 1948, she married Wesley Lucas in Dodge City. They lived in rural Satanta, Kansas. In 2007, they moved to Garden City where they have lived since.

A homemaker, Velma was a member of the Garden City Church of the Nazarene, the Sunshine Club, and she taught pre-school Sunday School Class for more than 30 years. She enjoyed crafts, cooking, and baking, especially holiday treats. Survivors include her husband Wesley Lucas of the home; a daughter Jill (David) Wolfe of St. Peters, Missouri; 4 brothers Harold Lewis of Kansas City, KS, John Lewis of Kansas City, KS, Richard Lewis of Ft.

Worth, TX, & Jim Burr of Kansas City, MO; 2 sisters Donna Jean League of Arizona & Clara Mae Beatle of Kansas City, KS; 4 Grandchildren; 7 Great-Grandchildren; & 2 Great Great-Grandchildren. Velma is preceded in death by her parents Eugene & Blanche Lewis; her stepmother Gladys Lewis; 2 sons Kirk Lucas and Mark Lucas; and 3 sisters Opal Kruse, Eleanor Shaw, and Verna Maddan. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Garden City Church of the Nazarene with Rev.

Matthew Lucas, Rev. Andrew Lucas, & Pastor Tim Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City.

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, and the family will meet at Garnand Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday to visit with friends. The family suggests memorials given to the Sublette Church of the Nazarene, or to the Donor’s Choice, all in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
