Verna Mae Caviness Shackelford, 87, wife of Raymond L. Shackleford Sr. and resident of Georgetown, KY, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018. Born in Sanford, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Herman and Myrtle Cole Caviness. A dedicated wife and mother, she loved her family and enjoyed following them as they grew older.

She enjoyed Bingo at The American Legion and following her family via Facebook in recent years. In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by her children; Raymond L. Shackelford Jr., Poquoson, VA, Vickie (Kenny) Fraley, Georgetown and Terri (Steve) Hill, Lanexa, VA; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister Ruth Cole and brothers Earl and Ray Caviness.

A memorial gathering will be 6-8 PM Thursday at Johnson’s Funeral Home, Georgetown, KY. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 14th at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home in Sanford, NC. Burial will follow at Center United Methodist Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
