VerNell C. Nielsen August 15, 1929 ~ December 16, 2018 VerNell Cook Nielsen, 89, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018 in Orem, Utah. She was born In Sutherland, Utah on August 15, 1929 to Heber James and Jetta Bunker Cook. VerNell married Edward LeRoy “Ted” Nielsen on January 12, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. VerNell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings throughout her life. She enjoyed being with her family, traveling, and taking care of her many homes through the years.

She was a very talented cook, baker, and cake decorator. Her family loved the many gatherings and looked forward to and enjoyed every meal. She was an excellent homemaker and had an eye for detail, making sure things matched and looked clean and tidy.

VerNell and Ted lived in many homes in Provo, Orem, Monroe, Santaquin, Payson and Pleasant Grove. VerNell was no stranger to suffering during various times in her life but tried her best to remain positive. She and Ted lost their beautiful daughter, Saundra, in 1961 due to Polio.

She learned to be patient and loving as she and Ted raised their son, Lon, who was mentally handicapped. Lon lived with them until his passing in July 2017. VerNell is survived by her loving children: Lori (Charles) Griffith, James (Lisa), Brian (Julie), and Raquel Hale; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Ronald Cook and Grant Cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Maxine, Ileen, Juanita, Dale, and Glenn; and her beloved Saundra and Lon. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 at 12 p.m. at the Timpview Stake Center, 1050 North 600 West, Orem, Utah. Friends may visit with the family from 10:45 to 11:45 am prior to services.

Interment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
