Violet’s Obituary Violet C. “Vi” Wilson, 96, Green Bay, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home Monday, February 11, 2019. She was born on November 5, 1922, in Green Bay to Albert and Sophie (Schwartz) Schmitt. Vi graduated from Green Bay West High School.

She worked for the phone company in Madison during the war, as well as other employment in Green Bay after the war and throughout marriage. Vi especially enjoyed volunteering for 18 years at Jefferson Elementary School and was recognized as Volunteer of the Year in 2003, an award that she cherished. More than anything, Vi loved her family: husband, Ward and her children; adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her fur friends: Kiwi, Chewy, Gabby, Angel 1 and 2, and Mabel.

She loved her yard: her birds not squirrels, her flower-veggie gardens and her lawn. Vi loved making special foods for family and friends, onion rings at River Street Pier, the little fried potatoes and free pie at Perkins. Vi loved going to the Casino and enjoyed the free samples at Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe.

She loved reading the daily news, especially the Press-Gazette, until the carrier wouldn’t bring it to her door and she couldn’t get to it anymore. She was a crocheter of beautiful washcloths, an obsessive puzzle do-er, and coveted scrubby maker. Vi is survived by her children: Jeanne (Mike) Gallagher, Daniel (Becki) Wilson, Pat (Dian) Wilson; grandchildren: Michelle (Jason) DeRousseau, Ryan (Jen) Gallagher, Reid Wilson (Hannah McMacken), Kersten (Matt) Gwost, Taylor Wilson, Grant (Berenice) Wilson, Scott Wilson; great-grandchildren: Aiden, Brenna, Piper Gallagher, Maia Wilson, Kianna, Cambria, Kaydia Wilson; and brother, Lyle Schmitt.

The family would like to thank Vi’s special friends, Bea and Debbie, for all the help and care and love they gave her. Vi loved them dearly. Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Paul “Ward” Wilson; her son, Larry Wilson; her parents; and sister, Ruth (Pearl) Hart.

Visitation will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church, 401 Gray St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 16, followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 1 p.m. with Rev. Gregory Parent officiating. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, Violet and the family wish monetary donations be made in her memory to Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary on Fox Heights Ln. , Green Bay.
