Obituary for Virginia E. Remensnyder Virginia Elizabeth Remensnyder was born on June 21, 1921 in Sebewaing, Michigan and passed away at Meadow View Manor in Saginaw on Thursday, April 12, 2018. Virginia (Ginny) was one of four daughters born to Robert and Bernice (Zoller) Brechtel. The family moved to Saginaw in 1926 where Virginia attended North Elementary School.
In 1932 they returned to Sebewaing and Virginia graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1938. She then entered the School of Nursing at Saginaw General Hopsital and received her nursing degree in 1942. She met her future husband, W. Robert Remensnyder, when she was a student nurse and he was a patient at Saginaw General.
They married on October 17, 1942 in Sebewaing. They lived in Saginaw for 28 years where they raised two sons. Following her husband’s retirement in 1970, they moved to their lake house at Crystal, Michigan.
Virginia returned to Saginaw in 1997 after Robert’s passing and enjoyed independent living until 2006 when she moved to Shattuck Manor Assisted Living. Virginia found her nursing career to be very rewarding and felt great compassion for the patients entrusted to her care. She worked at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, while Robert was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
Following their return to Saginaw, she directed the First Aid Department at Wickes Corporation from 1954 – 1959, directed the Student Health Center for Delta College from 1960 – 1967, and was office manager and surgical assistant for the late Dr. Robert Northway from 1967 – 190. After retiring to Crystal, she continued her career as a relief surgical nurse from 1972 – 1982 at the Carson City Hospital. As a member of First Presbyterian Church in Saginaw, she sang in the church choir for many years and also, served as a church deacon in 1997.
She attended the First Congregational Church at Crystal where she was, also, a member of the choir. Virginia served as president of the Saginaw Junior League and was a member of the Junior Garden Club – Pi Chapter, president of the Assistance League and was a member of the Saginaw Germania Club. She enjoyed travelling to Europe, the Caribbean and cruising to Alaska and Hawaii, as well as visiting her children and grandchildren.
Virginia was dedicated to her family, her sons and their wives and thought her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were second to none. Surviving are two sons, Robert (Mary) Remensnyder, Warrenton, Oregon; James (Sandra) Remensnyder, Bay City; three grandchildren, Tyson Remensnyder, Goodyear, Arizona; Jill (Brett) Eichenberger, Beaverton, Oregon and Katie Remensnyder, Ypsilanti; two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Greyson Remensnyder, Goodyear, Arizona; three sisters, Marion Henne, Pigeon; Grace Randall, Illinois and Maxine Gaber, Green Bay, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Betty Hawkins and four brothers-in-law, Norman Hawkins, G. Wayne Henne, Kenneth Randall and Robert Gaber.
The family wishes to thank all the many caregivers at Shattuck Manor and Meadow View Manor who assisted Virginia over the past several years. Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church. Rev.
Ted McCulloch will officiate with interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. , (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
