Virginia M. “Virgie” Hartung, age 99, of Wonder Lake, died Sunday, October 21, 2018, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born April 21, 1919 in Chicago to Louis and Lucy (Stricker) Gnadt and later married the love of her life, Charles Hartung. A resident of Wonder Lake for 56 years, Virgie was a devoted member of the Nativity Lutheran Church in Wonder Lake.

She is survived by her daughters, LeeAnn (the late Joseph “Dick”) Calcagno, Farol (the late James), and Donna (the late Kenneth) Grelyak; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hartung in 1996; a daughter, Virginia “Ginger” (the late John) Huhn; a brother, Louis Gnadt; and two sisters, Pearl Michalak and Lorayne Kovnacki.

The visitation will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Rd. , McHenry, IL 60050. The visitation will resume on Sunday at Nativity Lutheran Church, 3506 E Wonder Lake Rd, Wonder Lake, IL 60097 from 2:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. funeral service.

Interment will be at Christ the King Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Neighbors Food Pantry at 3506 East Wonder Lake Rd. , (P.O. Box 293), Wonder Lake, IL 60097, or at wlnfp.org or to the JourneyCare Foundation at 2050 Claire Ct.
