Obituary for Vista Walters Powell Vista Walters Powell, 98, of the Brosville Community died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a decline in health for several years. Mrs. Powell was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on September 3, 1920 a daughter of the late George Washington Walters and Bessie Wall Walters. Mrs. Powell graduated from Brosville High School class of 1939 and retired from Dan River Mills after 44 years of service.

She was a member of Brosville United Methodist Church and the UMW. On July 27, 1940, she married Beverly Kermit Powell, who died on April 9, 1998. Survivors include her daughter, Peggy P. Shackelford, a grandson, Barry Shackelford (Heather), four great-grandchildren, Jesse, Jack, Braden, and Jenna; and a granddaughter-in-law, Tammy Shackelford (Rob Feild).

In addition to her husband a brother, George W. Walters, a sister, Gladys W. Melson, a son-in-law, Phillip Shackelford, and a grandson, Mike Shackelford predeceased her. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel conducted by the Rev. Intek Oh.

Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Brosville United Methodist Church.
