Walter E. Mowrer, 73, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy after a courageous 2-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Kenneth M. and Elsa (Mueller) Mowrer. Walter was the husband of Barabra (Earhart) Mowrer, with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage this past May.

Walter was a 1963 graduate of Donegal High School and began his working career as a carpenter. He continued later as a dairy and poultry farmer, butcher, plumber, and after retirement worked at Roots for the produce auction. For many years, Walt was an active member in the community where he formerly served as President of the Lancaster County Post Card Club, and as a board member of the Lancaster County Poultry Association.

Walt enjoyed bowling, tending to his garden and flowers, attending auctions, and collecting antiques, toys and post cards. He also enjoyed playing pinochle every Thursday night with his friends for many years. Surviving in addition to his loving wife Barabra, are two children; Tina Anderson, wife of Adam of Stoughton, MA and Ken L. Mowrer, husband of Becki (Adams) of Columbia.

Also surviving are six grandchildren; Kailey, Kyle, Erik, Ella, Malcolm and Izabella. He was preceded in death by a son, Tim Mowrer, three brothers, Kenneth, Daniel and Donald Mowrer, and two sisters, Dorothea Sload and Linda Kreider. The Mowrer family would like to invite friends and family for a drop-in to celebrate Walter’s life at LCBC, 2392 Mount Joy Road, Manheim (Please use the South Auditorium Entrance) on Sunday, October 14th, 2018 from 3 PM to 7 PM for food and fellowship.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, The Lancaster Cancer Center, or the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.
