Obituary for Wanda Lee Hurley (Barrett) Wanda Lee Barrett Hurley, 90, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018, at UNC-Rockingham Health Care in Eden. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, December 29, at Smith & Turner Funeral Home in Yukon, OK. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 – 2 PM) at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hurley was born December 7, 1928 in Canadian County, OK, to the late Seymour Defane Barrett and Grace Butler Barrett. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Paul and after living in Oklahoma City for a short time moved to Cushing where they would eventually start a successful dairy business. She was a graduate of Oklahoma State University, earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

Wanda was a retired teacher for the Cushing Public School System in Cushing, OK and was a past president of the Cushing Association of Classroom Teachers. She enjoyed life with family and friends. Wanda loved to garden, work on the farm, cook, and sew.

In Cushing, she was active in the American Association of University Women and the Home Extension Club, and she entered items in the Payne County Fair and won many ribbons. Wanda and Paul moved to North Carolina in 2005, where she made many friends. She was a member of Osborne Baptist Church in Eden and enjoyed participating in senior activities.

She also continued to be involved in the local home extension club. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Brooks and husband, David, of Stoneville; step-daughter, Judy Tidwell and husband, David, of Fort Worth, TX; two grandsons, James Brooks and wife, Alexandra of Tampa, FL and Hunter Brooks of Beaufort, SC; granddaughter, Angela Burns and husband, Kevin, of Saginaw, TX; great-grandsons, Logan Burns and Braden Burns of Saginaw, TX; sister, Gayle Barrett and husband, Dale, of Norman, OK; brother, Jerry Barrett and wife, Benita, of Oklahoma City, OK; and numerous nieces nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Hurley.
