Stevensville – Wayne E. Tree, 83, of Stevensville passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at The Village Health Care Center in Missoula. He was born September 23, 1934 in Berwyn, Illinois, the son of the late Thomas H. and Florence (Thompson) Tree. He graduated from Grangeville High School in LaGrange, Illinois in 1952.

Wayne and some of his friends came to Montana in 1954 and decided to make Missoula their new home. Wayne graduated from the University of Montana and also got his Master’s degree from there. His first teaching job was in West Yellowstone from February 13th to June 2, 1967.

He then took a teaching positon at Rattlesnake School in 1967. He taught 7th and 8th grade science at Rattlesnake School until his retirement in 1992. After retiring he did some subbing in Stevensville and Florence schools.

He was also the score keeper for football, girts’ basketball and volleyball at Florence for several years. He was an avid bird watcher and made many friends in Montana and Idaho in his years of birding. He was also a volunteer at the Teller Refuge and the Lee Metcalf Refuge.

His prize achievement was when he got 300 different bird species in a year. A lot of time went into this achievement. Wayne is survived by his wife Arla of Stevensville; one daughter, Arnica and husband Scott Ziebarth and two sons Chad Tree and his wife Nadine and Brad Tree and his wife Christy; four granddaughters and three grandsons.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 P.M. at the Whitesitt Funeral Home in Stevensville.
