Wayne Goetz March 19, 1916 – March 02, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Wayne Paul Goetz, 102, of Connersville, passed on March 2, 2019, in Connersville, IN. Wayne was born on March 19, 1916 in Connersville, and is the son of the late Henry Paul Goetz and Lillian Bell Voorhees. On August 1, 1941, he married Joan L. Rambo.

They were able to spend 67 years together until she passed away in October 2008. They were members of the East Side United Methodist Church in Connersville. Wayne served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 aboard the USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier, where he took part in the invasion of Okinawa during WWII.

Wayne had worked for Dresser Roots as a Machinist and Inspector where he eventually retired in 1978 after 42 years of service. Wayne volunteered his time to the public library in Connersville where he spent many years cleaning and helping maintain the building. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #1 and Amvets Post #11 in Connersville.

While a member of the East Side United Methodist Church, he spent many years as the church treasurer. Wayne was very active in the Boy Scouts from a young age. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Palm and later became a Boy Scout leader.

Wayne is survived by a daughter, Theresa “Terri” Cochran; three grandchildren, Lora and Shane Gough, Amy and Carl Wilms, and Terry and Lisa Cochran; six great-grandchildren, Brittany Jo and Jimmy Waddell, Charlie Paul and Amanda Gough, Casey Baxter Wilms, Alex Baxter Wilms, Hutton Cochran and Khari Cochran; six great-great-grandchildren, Grayson Shane Waddell, Devin Waddell, Kendal Waddell, Brody Paul Gough, Dalton Ailes and Jordan Ailes; as well as special friends John and Nancy Strong, Jonie Brock, and Vane Lashua. In addition to his wife and parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his brother Dale Goetz; a son-in-law, Charles Cochran; and two great grandchildren, Kelsey Kay and Benjamin. Visitation for Wayne will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 11:00am until 2:00pm at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th Street, Connersville.

The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00pm with Pastor Malcom Greene officiating. A graveside service with military honors provided by the Fayette County Honor Guard Council will follow at Dale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Side Methodist Church or Indiana Honor Flight at the funeral home.
