Wencel L. Dahl, age 86, of Janesville passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Vernon County on January 30, 1932, the son of Lee and Tillie (Dahl) Dahl. Lee Dahl (father of Wencel) battled a snowstorm to bring the midwife to their home for the birth of Wencel.

He attended schools in Vernon County. and was employed in farming before being inducted into the army in 1952. Wencel served in the infantry during the Korean War.

He was present at the signing of the Armistice on July 27, 1953. After his discharge he went to work at Fisher Body (Name later changed to General Motors). Wencel married Carol Stoeckly on August 18, 1956, in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church.

In 1988, Wencel and his brother, Vernon, won a $20,000 reward from GM’s Suggestion program and saved the company approximately half a million dollars. After 36 years and 4 months Wencel retired from GM. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening.

He spent many happy hours boating on the Rock and Mississippi Rivers and loved to water Ski with his children. Wencel was a UAW Local 95 member and a lifetime member of the VFW. Wencel is survived by his wife, Carol of 61 Years; 2 children, William (Mari) Dahl and Tom Dahl of Janesville; grandchildren: Andrea, Johanna, James, Carrie, and Jennie Dahl; great grandchildren: Kaiya and Rileigh Hill and Gwendolyne Hall; brother, Odean (Lois) Dahl of Janesville; sister, Janice (Gale) Olson; sister in law, Marlene Dahl, of Viroqua; many nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Dahl; parents Lee and Tillie Dahl; siblings, Kenneth Dahl, Lester (Louise) Dahl, Beatrice (Bryce) Tollackson, Frances (Jack )Hanson, Vernon, Arden, and Wayne Dahl. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., noon, on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the Funeral Home.
