Obituary for Wendell “Sonny” Lee Byers Wendell Lee “Sonny” Byers, 79, of Medicine Lodge, KS, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge, KS. He was born on January 11, 1939 in Sharon, KS, the son of Roy Byers and Dora (Cavin) Byers. On November 10, 1958, he married Julia K. “Judie” (Mattingly) Byers in Pioche, NV.
She preceded him in death on March 9, 2017. Sonny was an oil pumper for Woolsey Operating Company, Medicine Lodge, KS. He loved his job, gardening and spending time with his daughter, grandson, & family.
Surviving are one daughter, Blythe J. (Michael) Murphy of Medicine Lodge, KS; one grandson, Nick (Rachel) Porter of Omaha, NE; Several nieces & nephews. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Roy & Dora, his wife, Judie, five brothers, Guilford, Kenneth, Dale, Bob, & Duane Byers; and four sisters, Iona Slayden, Elvera McCullough, Agnes Trantham, & Margaret Campbell. Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or Heifer International in care of Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge, KS 67104. Condolences may be left at www.
