Wesley Riley, 84 of Carroll, died Friday, December 21, 2018 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial Carroll will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at St. John Paul II Parish- Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr.

Timothy Schott. Music will be by Dr. Franklyn Busby, Pastoral Musician and the Holy Spirit Resurrection Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass will be: Maren Mooney, Becky Short, and Sara Neumann.

Gift Bearers will be Wesley’s great-grandchildren. Eucharistic Minister will be Peg Scheidt. Casket Bearers will be: Travis Neumann, Bryan Short, Joe Mooney, Dale Quandt, Todd Slechta, and Leo Welsh.

Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. Memorials may be left at the church for New Hope Village in Carroll.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Wesley’s family at www. sharpfuneral.com. Wesley Eugene Riley was born on July 3, 1934 at Boyer, Iowa, the son of William and Gladys (Peterson) Riley.

He received his education in Crawford County. On July 3, 1954, Wesley was united in marriage to Thresia Catherine Hanrahan at St. Rose of Lima in Denison, Iowa. To this union were two children, Keith and Sandra.

They made their home in Battle Creek, Charter Oak, Denison, Vail and Carroll. Wesley worked as a farm hand and also assisted at the junkyard and with interior decorating until 1962 when he started farming in the Vail area. In 2000, following his retirement Wesley and Thresia moved to Carroll.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and camping. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In retirement, Wesley also volunteered at the New Hope Bargain Shop in Carroll.

Wesley was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 64 years, Thresia Riley of Carroll; his children: Keith (Jane) Riley of Carroll and Sandra (Gary) Mooney of Indianola; his grandchildren: Joe (Maren) Mooney, Rebecca (Bryan) Short, and Sara (Travis) Neumann; his great-grandchildren: Kaia and Mitchell Neumann, Wesley, Charlotte, and Sabrina Mooney, and Lorraine Short; his brother, Wayne (Marlene) Riley of Sun City, AZ; his sister-in-law, Mary Welsh of Vail; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gladys Riley; and his sister-in-law MaDonna (Kenneth) Hoemann and brothers-in-law: Leo (Marian) Hanrahan and Jim Welsh.
