Wilhelm Voll passed away, surrounded by family, in Binghamton, NY on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the age of 91. A celebration of his life will be held at the home of William and Lisa Voll in Towaco, NJ on Saturday, May 26th at 2 P.M. Wilhelm, better known as “Willi” to his friends and “Opa” by his family, was born in 1927 in Bobenheim Am Rhein, Germany to Heinrich Voll and Katharina Jakoby. He was the youngest of four sons only two of whom survived infancy.

As a boy in Germany he loved to read stories about the American frontier, and watch Western movies. His favorite actor was Tom Mix. His friends called him “Tom” when they played cowboys and Indians.

At the age of 14 he was conscripted into the German military to man searchlights and anti-aircraft cannons during WWII. After the war, Willi learned the masonry trade. He was a real craftsman who enjoyed his work.

He married Hedi Kapper in 1947. They were united in marriage almost 71 years. He fulfilled his dream of coming to America in 1952 when the family, now including their son, Ron, moved to the wilds of New Jersey.

They lived in Passaic, Clifton, Lincoln Park and Towaco and had two more children, Lori and Bill. Willi started his own masonry business, Willi Voll Inc., still operated by his younger son, Bill. He would joke that he built half of the homes in Lake Hiawatha.

Opa loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Hedi enjoyed traveling and were able to take road trips around the USA and a number of trips to Europe.

He retired to his cabin in Delhi, NY and lived there enjoying nature and feeding the animals. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sorely missed. Wilhelm was predeceased by his brothers, Kurt, Willi (I) and Ernst.

He is survived by his wife, Hedi, son, Ron Voll and his wife Colene, daughter, Lori Wallace, and son, Bill Voll and his wife Lisa, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
