Smith—William F., 89, Richland, died October 20, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center. Born February 26, 1929, in Johnstown, son of the late Roy L. and Ellen E. Smith. Preceded in death by wife of over 60 years, Irene Smith, and step-father, Harold Schrock.

William served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for 9 ½ years at Bethlehem Steel Co. and 26 years for the Johnstown Police Department. He was sworn in as the head of 86 police officers during the 1977 Johnstown Flood.

He retired at the end of 1981 and then worked for 20 years at the Cambria County Sheriff’s Department. He and his wife moved to the Allegheny Lutheran Home on Goucher Street where she passed away in 2013. At William’s request, there will be no viewing, visitation or funeral service.

Interment, Richland Cemetery’s Soldier’s Circle beside his loving wife until the Lord returns and he will to straighten out this Earth for the second time. Amen. The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.
