William F. Tucker July 31, 1934 – January 17, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card William Fainter (Bill) Tucker of Lexington, NC went to be with his LORD and SAVIOR on January 17, 2019. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church on South Main Street in Lexington with Dr. Lee Zehmer officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

Bill was born in Lynchburg, VA on July 31, 1934 to Charles Johnson Tucker and Mary Ellene Fainter Tucker. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, where he earned all-state honors in football. He was a student athlete at The College of William & Mary and received a BA degree in 1958.

As an alumnus, he was a former member of the President’s Council, continuing member of the Athletic Educational Foundation, Order of the White Jacket and Bell Society. Bill was a retired business executive and former Vice President of Binnings Building Products of Lexington, NC. As a member of the Executive Committee and in concert with various New York Investors, purchased Binnings Building Products assets from the parent company, National Gypsum.

He served as Corporate Secretary for four years prior to the sale of the company to a competitor. He served a term on the Board of Directors for Sapona Country Club. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church having served on the Memorial and Ushering Committees.

He was supportive of various charities and local Crisis Ministries. Bill’s priorities in life were his family, faith, friends and his beloved Alma Mater. He enjoyed sports, particularly golf and football.

His most cherished times were those involving family. Christian fellowship was very meaningful, and church families were an extension of his own family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and best friend Charles J. Tucker, Jr. and beloved daughter Laura Ann Tucker.

Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Steppe Tucker of the home; son, William Tucker, Jr and daughter-in-law, Ann Tweedy Tucker of Hilton Head, SC; grandson, Will Tucker, III of Charlotte, NC; sister, Sarah Tucker Mayberry of Lynchburg, VA, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Tucker, also of Lynchburg, VA; and many nieces and nephews.
