Reader, age 80, was born in December, 1938, in Angleton, Texas. A resident of Alamogordo, New Mexico for 12 years, he passed away on January 22, 2019, at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. A gregarious and jovial person, Bill loved to play pranks on his family and friends.

He loved to hunt and participate in Field Biological Research. Most of his adult life was spent as a science teacher of Chemistry and Biological and Physical Sciences. His last teaching years were spent teaching teachers at the higher education level and certifying them to fill many classrooms in the areas of critical shortages such as Math, all Sciences, Bilingual/LEP/ESL, Special Education and Speech Pathology.

Always a lifelong learner, Bill completed undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate work in 8 different universities in 10 different areas of certification. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jan, of Alamogordo, New Mexico; son, Ryan Reader, daughter-in-law, Beverley Reader, granddaughter, Alex Reader, and grandsons, Wyatt and Lincoln Reader, of Pflugerville, Texas, granddaughter, Kristan Mobley of Guthrie, Oklahoma, grandson, Joshua Taylor of Pampa, Texas, sister, Jewel Szabo of Baytown, Texas, six great-grandchildren, two nieces, and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Mary Reader, brothers, James and Robert Reader, son, Britton Lance Reader, and daughter, Sarah Jo Taylor.

Bill was a generous Christian person. He would give you his last dollar and offer the plan of salvation to you as he walked in his faith throughout his life. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, February 4, 2019, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1316 N. Scenic Drive, Alamogordo, NM.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:30 followed by the service at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the youth ministry at Bethel Baptist Church or to your favorite charity. The Reader family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
