WINNIE HAYDEN Winnifred M. “Winnie” Hayden, 94, of Quincy, formerly of Payson, Illinois, passed away at 12:00 Midnight Monday (November 26, 2018) in Good Samaritan Home. Born September 11, 1924 in Corning, Kansas, Winnie was the daughter of John and Harriett Barkdoll Dial. She married James E. “Jack” Hayden on June 4, 1944 in Circleville, Kansas.

He preceded her in death on January 13, 2000. Winnie was a longtime member of Payson United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She always said that her faith in God carried her through many difficult times in her life.

Winnie was an active member of the Payson community serving as a past president of the Payson P.T.A., and a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was a member of R.S.V.P, the Payson Garden Club, Friends and Neighbors Club and the Payson Old Settler’s Association. In 1988, Winnie and Jack served as Grand Marshalls for the Payson Old Settler’s parade.

Winnie received the Payson-Plainville Lions Community Service Award and the Payson Lodge Community Builder’s Award in 1994. Winnie loved being outdoors working in her flower garden. She was devoted to her family and cherished the time she shared with them.

Winnie was employed in the clothing department at J. C. Penney and then at Boekenhoff Bakery. She was later employed as a cook at Grant’s until her retirement. Survivors include her daughter, Lizabeth “Beth” Vortman (Allan) of Kewanee, IL; her granddaughter, Jennifer Plummer (Chris) of Aldie, VA; two great grandchildren, Bailey and Ethan Plummer; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; two daughters, Becky Jo Hayden and Sherry Hayden; a granddaughter, Erica Vortman; six sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in the Payson United Methodist Church with Pastor Annelle Ruemmler officiating. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the Payson United Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held Monnday afternoon (December 3, 2018) at 1:00 at the Holton Cemetery, Holton, Kansas. Arrangements are in the care of the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Payson United Methodist Church.
