Obituary for Aileen A. Juodis Mom was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the eldest child of four, born to Raymond and Anna (nee Graham) Parke. Her siblings Thomas Parke, Joan Kolb, and Nancy Norton remain.
She was a tough lady with a fantastic sense of humor. She taught each of us how to be strong, independent women. She could be found crawling down a hallway with a lampshade on her head to startle you or giving the “you better behave” stare from across the table, more terrifying than the former.
No matter what the situation, if you were with mom, you were home. Mom was raised Irish Catholic and attended parochial schools with her sisters and brother. She graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in 1955.
A conscientious student and musician. She played the harp, cello and later the piano. She played in the orchestra and took part in an all school musical.
Mom went on to take courses in short hand and typing, skills that served her in her work outside the home at institutions like Chandler Hall and Twining Village. She finally found her passion later in life working at Fireside Flowers, where her eye for design was used to assemble arrangements and displays for the shop. She fashioned arrangements for parties, holidays, showers and more, making each family event even more special.
Her talents were on display in her home. She was able to transform her décor by the season, always creating a lovely and comfortable home for us. Without question, mom’s favorite pastime was shopping.
She loved clothing and shoes and was always in fashion at any event. This passion has definitely been passed on to her daughters and grandkids alike. We have been known to go shopping together and fill an entire trunk with shoes alone.
Even the boys appreciate “a good looking shoe”. Mom enjoyed traveling, she and Dad loved the beaches of Mexico and other tropical locales. She traveled to Ireland with her sisters and visited with our extended family there.
Mom liked going to movies as well as the theater. She was a voracious reader getting lost in a mystery by Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich or swept into a romance by Danielle Steele. She was always in and out of the library.
Mom never did get used to an e-reader, she liked to hold a book and feel the pages as she delved into each story. Mom cherished time spent with her family. She was ever present at sporting events, performances, birthday parties, and milestone events for all her children and grandchildren.
She was never empty handed, bringing flowers or treats to celebrate each special day. We grew up visiting the beach in the summer and the Pocono mountains in the winter. Mom was always ready for a good time, enjoying time with her friends and hiding under tables with the kids playing games.
We will forever cherish the many memories and pass the stories of her humor on to our children and their children. Aline (and Glenn) Turner, Karen (and Jack) Kerrane, Joyce (and David) Boekel, Lynne (and Michael) Comstock and Jennifer Malone (and Jeff Natale); her thirteen grandchildren, Nicholas, Sara, Brandon (and Lindsay), Kaila, Shannon, Sean, Haley, Olivia, Anna, Harrison, Riley, Max and Elena all are devastated by this sudden and untimely loss. Her passing leaves us grief stricken and feeling the loss of our father anew.
Our parents, like many, experienced some peaks and valleys through their 57 years of marriage. They were the perfect example of what true love could be, come what may. Our only solace is in knowing that mama and pops are two souls returned to one another again.
They will live on forever in all of our hearts.
