Obituary for Joe Leggio LEGGIO, Joseph A. – age 85, resident of Cape May, NJ and formerly of Staten Island, NY passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on October 4, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 30, 1932 to Antonio Leggio and Ignazia (Nancy) Mirabile Leggio. Graduated from John Adams High School, Class of 1951.

Attended Brooklyn College and the NY Institute of Finance. Licensed Registered Representative of the New York Stock Exchange. Worked as a teletype operator, order clerk, order room supervisor and communications supervisor for several large brokerage firms in NYC during his career, where he was responsible for commodities, mutual funds, and stock options.

Served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 in radio communications. A devout Catholic, Joe was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. He was an active parishioner in various churches throughout his life, including 22 years at Our Lady Star of the Sea parish in Cape May.

Joe loved sports and worked with youth in Intramural leagues as an umpire. He enjoyed watching the Brooklyn Dodgers, the NY Mets, NY Rangers, NY Knicks and NY Giants. Joe was a history buff who enjoyed documentaries, the civil war, and classic movies, but most of all he enjoyed precious time with his family.

Joe was a kind, gentle man with a marvelous sense of humor and a sunny disposition, who went out of his way to help others. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Jean McCarthy Leggio (2006). Joe will be deeply missed by his loving family, which includes his four children, Nancy, Michael, Beth, and Christopher (and Laura); two grandchildren, Amanda and Rebecca; one sister, Theresa Leggio Ferrante; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewings for Joe will be held on Thursday (Oct. 11th) from 4pm to 6pm and again from 7pm to 9pm in the Spilker Funeral Home, 815 Washington St., Cape May. Joe’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (Oct.

12th) at 9:30am in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 525 Washington St., Cape May (no viewing hours on Friday morning). Interment will be held privately and at a later date. Info and condolences: www.
