Alfred T. Kozlek, 69, of Sugarloaf, passed away May 22, 2018 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania – Philadelphia due to complications from heart surgery. Born in Kingston, December 4, 1948 and raised in Swoyersville, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Sophie C. (Sitar) Kozlek and had spent the past 34 years in Sugarloaf after moving from Troy, PA where he was a beloved high school English teacher for 12 years. He was the wonderful husband of Karen M. (Koscielski) Kozlek, with whom he would have celebrated 48 years of marriage on August 1st.

Al earned his bachelor’s degree from King’s College and Master of Science in Education from Mansfield University. He also obtained his principal certification from Bucknell University. Al was a member of St. John Bosco RC Church, Sugarloaf and retired from Bishop O’Reilly High School, Kingston where he was the principal.

Al loved life. He was an avid kayaker, photographer, woodworker, and antique collector. He and his family spent many happy days on Cape Cod.

In his younger years he had reached the rank of Eagle Scout. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother, Peter Kozlek and an infant sister. In addition to his wife, Karen, he is survived by his two devoted sons, Bradley and his wife Christine, State College; and Vincent and his wife Victoria, Sugarloaf; five grandchildren, Harry, Julie, Jacob, Jonas, and Penn; a brother, Thomas F. Kozlek, Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 PA-93, Sugarloaf, PA 18249, on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 11 am. Friends and family are invited to call at the church from 10 am until the time of the Mass. Burial will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
