Anna “Alice” Elizabeth Magdalene (Schweickert) Rich, age 100, of Stratford, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at St. Joseph Care and Rehabilitation Center in Trumbull. Alice was the beloved wife of 53 years to Joseph Leonard Rich, Sr. who died on March 11, 2001. Mrs. Rich was born in Hagondange, France on October 21, 1917.

She is the daughter of the late Charles and Maria Schweickert of Trumbull. Alice arrived in the United States when she was ten years old and graduated from Harding… Read More » High School in Bridgeport in 1936. Alice and Joe loved going on trips and traveling the world together.

But spending time with family would be her greatest passion. After her husband passed away, she continued traveling with her daughter, Kathy and family. She would never say “no” to going away together.

Her response was, “sure, why not”. At 87 and 93 years old, she went parasailing with her granddaughter, Mary, while on a cruise in the Caribbean. And at 99 years old, she was the oldest passenger on the ship to win the jackpot at Bingo.

As an avid sports fan, weekends were devoted to watching football, both college and professional. She loved the NY Giants, but after her grandchildren went to college, Penn State and Arizona State became her favorite teams to watch. She enjoyed playing cards and board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She kept her mind active by reading novels and completing the daily crossword puzzle. She loved receiving phone calls from her grandson about his softball tournaments and the homeruns that he would hit for her. She was inspiring and a true role model to all who loved her.

She will be greatly missed, but we are glad that she has been reunited with her one true love. She was the devoted mother of Kathleen (Vincent) Bevacqua of Stratford and Joseph (Linda) Rich, Jr. of Florida. She was the loving grandmother of Mary (Roger) Bevacqua Thomas of Shelton, Dr. Frank Bevacqua of Scottsdale, Arizona and Tiffany (Robbie) Stout of Georgia.

She was an amazing great-grandmother to Roger and Alyssa Thomas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased two brothers, Frederick and Herman; and two sisters, Mary and Charlotte.
