Obituary for Alvin Thomas Overton Alvin T. Overton, 73, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC after a year-long battle with cancer. Born in Norwalk, CT, he was the son of Willis and Cecelia Overton. Alvin spent much of his time growing up helping his father at his East Norwalk business, Overton’s Seafood Stand.
His father also ran a boat livery, and Alvin loved working at the dock. He enjoyed boating and water skiing, and one of his favorite hobbies was salt water fishing. Following High School, Alvin enlisted in the Navy and served for four years aboard the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier as a radio technician during the war in Vietnam.
Upon his return, he began working for Northeast Utilities (later NRG Energy) at the Norwalk Harbor power plant as a technician. He was also the proud owner of two ice cream stores, Overton’s East in East Norwalk, and Overton’s Too in Stratford, CT. He was passionate business owner and genuinely cared for the “kids” he employed, as well as all of his customers.
Alvin was always available to help anyone in need, and will be fondly remembered for his endless kindness and ability to make anyone smile. Alvin is survived by his wife, Diane and daughter, Katelin, brother Bill and his wife Carol, nieces Laura and Leslie and their spouses and children, Theresa and her family, and his nephew Christopher. He is predeceased by his brother, Neil.
He was deeply loved by his large extended family and many friends A memorial mass will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, September 20th at Christ Our King Catholic Church located at 1122 Russell Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC.
