Woodland Hills Funeral Home 507-387-5504 World War II veteran Ambrose David Boyum, 98, passed away on July 1, 2018. David was born in Arendahl, Minnesota on April 8, 1920 to Edward and Emma (Olness) Boyum. He graduated from Rushford High School.

He was active in sports and played the saxaphone in a swing band. He served his country from 1941-1945 as a lieutenant in the US Navy as an aviator. He flew anti-submarine patrols over the Atlantic from Florida to Africa and over the English Channel.

After the war he attended Purdue University. He graduated with a BS degree in Air Transportation with a minor in Music. He went on to a long career in sales in the Midwest.

He moved his family to Mankato in 1969 and later retired from General Telephone and Electric in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion,the Elks, the Navy Reserve and a faithful member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Mankato. David was an all around handyman, he enjoyed music especially jazz and swing, he traveled and he was an avid reader.

He was a quiet, intelligent man with a dry sense of humor. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. David met Marion Campbell in Winona, Minnesota at a dance.

They were married on June 16, 1943 in Norfolk,Virginia where David was stationed with the Navy. They were married 62 years and raised six children. David is survived by his sister, Ona Paulus, his three sons David (Jan), Dean, Kent (Cynthia), his three daughters Nancy Blethen, Betsy Meredith (Don),Susan Butler, six grandchildren, Eric Boyum, Sam Blethen (Shady), Molly Weinandt (Luke), Nick Blethen, Leah Reiners (Dave), Donny Meredith (Tiffani) and six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

We offer our sincere thanks to the staff of Pathstone Crossing Assisted Living who showed such loving kindness to our father. Thank you to the Pathstone short-term care staff and the Mayo Hospice- Mankato staff who cared for him during his final days. A memorial service will be held on Sunday July 8, 2018 at 1:00 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church 302 Warren Street, Mankato.

A luncheon will follow the service. Interment of his ashes with military honors will follow at 3:00 pm at Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato. Woodland Hills Funeral Home of Mankato is handling arrangements.

The family would prefer memorials to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
