Obituary for Audrey Marie Morris Hirth Audrey Morris Morris Hirth passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 25, 2018, at the age of 90 years. She was born and raised in San Francisco, the daughter of George and Maude Morris. She attended Balboa High School in San Francisco, then graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Teaching Credential.

She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After a short period of time teaching elementary school in San Francisco, Audrey married the love of her life, Walter Hirth in 1952. When Walt wanted to buy a lot in the hills of Richmond overlooking the bay, she reluctantly agreed to leave her beloved San Francisco.

The beautiful view of the city from her hillside location taunted her with memories of the glamor she had exchanged for the backward little factory town. But she threw her heart into it and she and Walt, with the help of some of Walt’s older relatives, built the house that was be her home for the next fifty-five years. After raising five children, Audrey yearned to get back to her teaching career.

So she returned to school at Holy Names College in Oakland, earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education, and then went on to teach for many years as a Reading Disabilities Specialist at Salesian, Harry Ells, and Kennedy High Schools in Richmond and at a variety of elementary and middle schools in the Richmond Unified School District. After Walter passed away in 2005, Audrey moved to Benicia, CA to be closer to her eldest son. She is survived by her 5 children and their spouses: Dennis and Laura Hirth, Mark Hirth and Dawn Kershner, Theresa and Ernie Gonzalez, Gregory and Joni Hirth, and Christopher Hirth and Erika Heckscher; by her 15 grandchildren and their spouses, and by 6 great grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held on August 17, 2018 at St. Dominic Church at 1:00pm. The church is located at 475 East I St. in Benicia, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salesian High School (2851 Salesian Ave.
