Obituary for George Wallace Gieffels Jr. George William Gieffels Jr. died June 29th, 2018 at the age of 67 of a stroke after complications from a heart attack the week previous. George was born on September 14th 1950. He is survived by his wife Wanda Mae (Costello), his daughter Patricia Ann (Jacobson) and her husband Chris, his daughter Michelle Denise (Clifford) and her husband Stephan.

He was preceded in death by his father George William Gieffels Sr., his mother Madeline (Correia), his brother Dennis, many friends and family, and his beloved dog Lady Bug. George attended Benicia schools and graduated from Benicia High School in 1968. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

After returning home from Vietnam he married his wife and began working for the Federal Government at Mare Island as a Pipefitter. When Mare Island closed, he transferred to the Concord Naval Weapon Station where he retired in 2001. George was an avid sports fan, loyal to Bay Area teams, 49ers, Giants, Warriors, Sharks, and the Cal Bears.

He could easily tell you the stats of teams, players from any sport he was into, and never missed a chance to follow a Benicia player into college and then the big leagues no matter what team they landed on. The man loved to grill. George had a grill pit in his back yard with every type of grill accessory, smoker, etc, you name it, he had it.

He liked big trucks, and loud fast cars. He was an avid Video Game enthusiast, spending many an hour playing Command and Conquer, Starcraft and War Commander. He did not want a service, nor did he want what he considered a sad space for people to come and mourn him.

George would want anyone who knew him or knew his family to watch a Giant’s game, drink a Budweiser and have fun. George believed that if a day could end with a cigar, a barbecue and a cold brew surrounded by family, then it was a good day. The family would like any donations made to Kindred Hospice, as George greatly appreciated their help as his parents were passing.
