Born Aug. 20, 1941, Baerbel Martha Epperson died on Aug. 7, 2018.

She grew up on a farm in central Germany. In 1953, she and her family escaped what was then known as East Germany and fled to West Germany. After working as an interior designer in West Germany for a few years, she decided to join her mother and siblings who had immigrated to the United States and settled in Oregon.

In Oregon she met her husband, Ken, whom she married in 1968. In 1970, Barbara, as she was known, and Ken made the pilgrimage to Anchorage, Alaska. After working as a designer at DesignCraft, she decided to obtain a degree in interior architecture and graduated from the University of Oregon in 1982.

Barbara was a charter member of the Anchorage Chapter of ASID, the American Society of Interior Designers. She established her own business. She was a consummate mother and wife.

She loved most to be with her grandchildren or in the mountains picking blueberries. Her brother Jochen preceded her in death. Left to remember her presence with great love and admiration are her husband, Ken; daughter, Tonja Hall (Aaron); grandchildren, Hailey and Dalton; her sister, Brigitte; and several friends and acquaintances.

A private celebration of life will be held.
