Mebane – Barbara Edgerton Newsome, 74, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Baltimore County, Maryland on August 6, 1944 to the late Charles Thomas and Helen Geraldine Ellis Edgerton. Barbara retired from Quality Mechanical as a bookkeeper and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her son, Richard Niles Newsome, Jr.; a daughter, Melody Newsome Shambley (Doug); grandchildren; Ryan Blalock, Chad Blalock (Marci), Alex Blalock (Whitney), Ashlyn, Chandler, Tanner and Delanie Newsome, Abigail Burr, Alora Burr Enneking (Kory) and Noah Burr; great grandchildren, Landon Gardner and Braxton and Nayomie Blalock; sister, Patricia Morris; brother, Thomas Edgerton (Gwen); daughter-in-law, Cindy Loy Blalock and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sons, Richard Leslie Blalock and David Wesley Blalock. A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at West Burlington Church of God by Pastor Daniel Hollifield.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at her home in Mebane. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments held in the banquet hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pink Ribbon Fund – Alamance Regional Charitable Foundation at 1255 Huffman Mill Rd.
