Judy Eileene Carwell Cox, 73, of Gibsonville NC passed away October 16th 2018. She was born April 5th, 1945 in Louisville Kentucky to Ivan Leon Carwell and Bertha Victoria Krisch Carwell. She was a 1963 graduate of Greencastle Senior High School in Greencastle Indiana.

She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Education and later received a master’s Degree in Education from East Carolina University in 1993. During her career in education she taught elementary through High School grades in Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

She later worked in adult education at Craven Community College for 27 years where she retired as the Associate Vice President in 2006. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Ivan Leon “Skip” Carwell Jr She is survived by her husband of 52 years John Wayne Cox, two sons and five grandchildren; John Wayne Cox Jr, his wife, Shannon, and grandchildren, Caroline, Casey, and Camden of Greensboro NC; Brian Leon Cox, his wife Sherry, and grandsons, Corbin and Campbell of Peachtree City GA.

She is also survived by her brothers, Dr. Mark Carwell and his wife Carolyn of Laconia NH, their daughters Claire and Micaela; Robert “Bob” Carwell and his wife Sheryl of Liberty TX, their children Christine and Tyler; sister in law Francene Carwell of Richardson TX and her son Matthew. After retiring and moving to a small historic farm in Gibsonville Judy was able to care for three miniature rescue horses, learn beekeeping, raise miniature cattle, sheep, turkeys and spend more time quilting, sewing, crafting and baking. She was a member of the Alamance Antique Auto club and enjoyed the many friendships she made within the club.

She found great joy spending time with her grandchildren and watching them in their sports and activities. Judy spent time with the antique car club fundraising for the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance Caswell. If you’d like to do something in her honor a donation to this organization would have made her happy.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in the springtime. You may sign the online register book at www. lowefuneralhome.com.
