Barry’s Obituary Barry Collier, 66 of Jesup died Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in Wayne Memorial Hospital under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Glynn County native lived in Wayne County most of his life and was a member of Screven First Baptist Church and the Stanley English Sunday School Class. He was a 1971 Wayne County High School graduate, lettering 3 years in track and football, and won the state championship in the shot put and second in the discus in 1971 and holds the record for shot put and discus.

Barry was inducted into the WCHS Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. He also graduated from the University of Georgia where he played football and was then drafted as an 8th round pick for the San Diego Chargers. After that he returned to Jesup and taught at the Wayne County Jr. High School and coached many sports.

The family business, Collier Oil Company later employed him until he went to work at the Albany International Corp. until retirement. His last employment was as a Wayne County deputy jailer.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Stephanie Collier; parents, J.T. and Lucille Gale Collier; grandson, Maddux Howard and a sister-in-law, Marie Collier. Survivors are his wife of 29 years, Karen Collier; children, Michelle (Chris) Miller, Marissa Wells, Stephen Collier, Briana Collier, Katrina (Marshall) Howard and Travis Denison; grandchildren, Gabe, McKenzie, Marley, Marina, Jaxson, Katarina, Parker, Preston, Reese and Brooks; two brothers, Sidney Collier and Stanley(Sherry) Collier; several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Screven First Baptist Church with Dr. Brad Ellington, Joe McPipkin and Rev.

Parnell Aldridge officiating. Interment will be in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery along with Masonic Rites. Active pallbearers will be his nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday school class members and his fellow teammates. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Friday, January 25, 2019 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
