Benjamin Arthur Bolton, age 89, of Dune Acres, Indiana passed away June 10, 2018. Born September 5, 1928 in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania to Raymond and Margaret (Benjamin) Bolton, Ben is survived and missed by daughter Sara (Lee) McKinley, sons David, Steven, and Aaron (Becky) Bolton, grandchildren Kelsey Bolton and Aaron Bolton, Jr He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife Sylvia, and several of his Dune Acres Friday Morning Breakfast Club pals.

After serving state-side in the U.S. Army, Ben earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Lafayette College, followed by an M.B.A. from Northwestern University. His career with Standard Oil/Amoco/BP began in Whiting as a chemical engineer. He later became Director of Chemical Research and secured a number of patents on his inventions.

Ben and his family lived in Wheaton, Illinois, Whiting, Miller Beach, and Porter Beach before moving to Dune Acres 28 years ago. His intended retirement in Dune Acres developed into a long career of community service. He held the positions of Road Commission and Water Commissioner before serving three consecutive terms on the Town Council.

His family remembers frequent phone calls at home from town residents needing assistance, which could result Ben heading out with a snow shovel, a bow saw or anything else needed to remedy the reported emergency. Ben also served as an Income Tax Preparer Volunteer, Literacy Volunteer, and worked with Habitat for Humanity. He still found time for golf, working out at the gym, biking, swimming, sailing, kayaking and cross-country skiing.

Even when Ben’s health deteriorated, he enjoyed sitting on his Dune Acres’ deck, soaking up the sun and listening to the birds (“they sure are loud”. ) Ben’s family extends special appreciation to Dunes Hospice, and all the other home care providers, along with his special caregivers, “the Jessica’s”. Arrangements are under the care of White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN.
