Bette Lou (Goodale) Sawickis, 89, of Kewanee, passed away on September 11, 2018 at Kewanee Care Nursing Home. Bette was born July 19, 1929 in Kewanee, the daughter of Louis and Mabel (Evans) Goodale, the fourth child of five. She graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1947.

She married Edward Sawickis on April 12, 1958. Edward, the love of her life, died in 1993. Bette is survived by three children, Linda (Nausser) Jamali of Springfield, IL, John (Gretchen) Sawickis of Matthews, NC,… Read More » and Mark of Kewanee; grandsons, Paul and Drake Jamali both of Washington, D.C.; and her sister, Mary Motley of Kewanee.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Doris Clark, Donald Goodale, and Louise Weingart. Nicknamed “The General” and “The Pepsi Lady”, Bette devoted her time to her three children-serving as chief scheduler and attending sporting events, school plays and band concerts. She preferred baking over cooking and will be remembered for her fabulous homemade fudge.

She also served as bookkeeper at Ed’s Heating and Air Conditioning until 1986. Bette enjoyed traveling, dancing with Ed at the Flemish American Club, breakfast with her friends, getting her hair done on Saturdays, Wheel of Fortune, popcorn, celebrating Christmas, Cubs games, and attending First Christian Church. Most of all, Bette enjoyed spending time with her family.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Wethersfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wethersfield Academic Foundation 439 Willard St. Kewanee, IL. Special thanks to Heather Jontz and the staff at Kewanee Care Nursing Home.
