Obituary for Betty Ochs Betty M. Ochs, 83, died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born July 10, 1934 in Scott City, Kansas the daughter of Robert Henry & Almeta Merle (Gates) Beasley. Betty grew up as a child in Scott City where she attended school until the 2nd grade.

She then moved with her family to Garden City in 1942 where she has lived since. She attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School. On July 27, 1952, she married Walter Ochs in Garden City.

They owned and operated KOA Campground in Garden City for 11 years. Betty also worked as a secretary at Garden City Community College, and as a bookkeeper for Miller Gear Head and Production Credit. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Garden City; the Women of ELCA, the Beacon Light EHU, and the Ostomy Club.

Betty enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening and donating baby blankets to different organizations in the community. Betty and Walter also served as foster parents for 20 children over a 15 year period of time. Survivors include her husband Walter Ochs of the home; three children Terri Sue & husband David Conatser of Garden City; Douglas Wayne Ochs of Salina, Kansas, and Susan Rae Miller of Garden City; a sister Roberta Ochs of Ottawa, Kansas; five Grandchildren; and eight Great-Grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; a brother Eugene Beasley; and two sisters Rowena Robertson and Rollene Moler. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 at St. James Lutheran Church in Garden City with Teri Sutherlin officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. James Lutheran Church or to the Heartland Cancer Center both in care of the funeral home.
