Bobby Joe “BJ” Strickland, 75, of Florence, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Mr. Strickland was born a son of the late Letha Isaline Lynch Strickland and the late Alex Leon Strickland. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and a retired signal maintainer from CSX Railroad.

Mr. Strickland was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Florence. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Leona Miles, and his brothers, Floyd Strickland and Johnny Strickland. Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Nell Hutchinson Strickland; sons, Robert A. Strickland (Jeannie) of Effingham, SC and John L. Strickland of Olanta, SC; daughters, Belinda S. Tolin and Sylvia S. Johnson, both of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Brook Adams (Chase), Josh Pelt, Chip Johnson, Chelsea Johnson, Chandler Johnson and Meredith Strickland; great-grandchildren, Marley Adams; C. J. Adams and Sadie Bell Adams; brothers, Wilbur Strickland (Winetta) of Effingham, SC and Jerry Strickland (Barbara) of Timmonsville; and sister-in-law, Linda Strickland.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 23, at First Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
