Bonnie’s Obituary Bonnie G. Rooks Gurley McBride, age 83, formerly of Joplin, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Mesquite Specialty Hospital, Mesquite, Texas, after an illness. Bonnie was born June 28, 1935 in Joplin to the late Byron Rooks, Sr. and Dolly E. Barron Rooks. Bonnie worked as a supervisor for Guild Moccasin in California for several years.

She worked at Doane’s Feed Store from 1976-1982 and was a production worker at Safeway Bakery for several years before retiring due to ill health. Bonnie was a union steward and secretary of Baker’s and Confectionary Local #215, Joplin. She served on several committees at the Joplin Family Y and the Relay For Life, where she was team captain.

Bonnie was a longtime member of Villa Heights Christian Church. She loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her. Bonnie married Jerry N. McBride, Sr. on February 11, 1952 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

He preceded her in death on June 8, 2011. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry McBride, Jr.; a daughter, Jackie McBride; a brother, Charles Rooks; sisters, Thelma Gold and Carrie Newdigger; and Ada and Carl Gurley. Survivors include a two daughters, Cheryl McBride-Hoch and husband, Dean, Forney, Texas, Pamela Vorhees, Neosho; sister, Geneva Reed; a brother, Carl Gurley, Jr.; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
