Ruth’s Obituary Mildred Ruth Betterton, age 88, Webb City, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Spring River Christian Village. Ruth was born January 21, 1931 in Duenweg, Missouri, daughter of the late Marion Sutherland and Dora Katherine Brown Sutherland. She grew up in the Joplin area, attending Joplin Schools.

She worked for years as a welder at O’Sullivan Furniture in Lamar, Missouri before retiring. She also worked as a waitress for years at Trucker’s Inn on Hwy 43 south of Joplin. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Betterton, children, Sherry Updegraft, Michael Deems, James Barnes, Billy Cato, Mary Jane Cato; siblings, Carolyn, Katherine, John Sutherland, Richard Sutherland, Sherman Sutherland, and Doyle Sutherland.

Survivors include her children, Judith Pelamend of Willard, Missouri, Jeanette Jaques and husband James of Rich Hill, Missouri, Helen Gugat and husband Lee of Sioux City, Iowa, Gwen Stevie Dadinger also of Sioux City, Katherine Clark and husband Charles of Jasper, Missouri; John Troy Barnes and wife Clair of Webb City, Thomas C. Barnes of Joplin, Missouri, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Weaver Cemetery, Oronogo, Missouri.
