Bryson Byron Moore Sep 23, 1979 – Mar 18, 2019 On Monday, March 18, 2019, surrounded by his loving family, Bryson Byron Moore of Layton, Utah, passed away peacefully at the age of 39 after a 10-year-long battle with Anaplastic Astrocytoma brain cancer. Bryson was born in Ogden, Utah on September 23, 1979 as the third child of Ron and Jan Moore of Layton. He graduated from Layton High School in 1998, where he played baseball and made 2nd Team All-State.
He served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, beginning his service in the Ireland, Dublin Mission in 1998 and after a brief return home; he completed his service in the Ohio Columbus Mission in 2002. He was married to Ashley Taylor in 2002 and in 2004 became the father to a son, Hunter. The couple later divorced.
Bryson married Lori Purves in 2011 and became the father of two more sons: Gavin in 2013 and Garrett in 2016. The couple divorced in 2017. Bryson had an extensive education and experience as a Physical Education teacher.
He completed his A.S. in Exercise Science at Darton College in Albany, GA in 2007 (Cum Laude); while at Darton College he played two years of baseball as a pitcher and was fondly referred to as “grandpa”. He earned his B.S. in Physical Therapy with an Emphasis in Athletic Training at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, UT in 2010 and his M.Ed. in Physical Education at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, AL in 2013 (Cum Laude).
Bryson had a successful and rewarding career in the Athletic Training and Physical Education fields. He worked as student athletic trainer at SUU; Graduate Assistant in Sports Medicine at Alabama A&M; Health Science teacher at Ben Lomond High School in Ogden; Athletic Director, coach and K-12 Physical Education teacher at Beatty High School in Beatty, NV; Physical Education teacher and coach at Valley High School in Las Vegas, NV; and Physical Education teacher at Thiriot Elementary in Las Vegas, NV. He also volunteered many hours as a trainer for the football and men’s basketball teams at Weber State University in Ogden.
Bryson was well-loved by all the many students and athletes that he worked with. Bryson was best known for being a “people person”. He loved being around his friends and family and meeting new people, especially young people.
He enjoyed his church callings that allowed him to frequently interact with people and was well-known for always being positive and willing to do anything he could for anyone. He loved to tell stories and jokes as a way to connect with others. His engaging way of speaking drew people in and made them feel that he cared about them.
He was also passionate about sports and he loved being around youth and collegiate sporting events and helping with the athletes’ needs. Bryson’s biggest passion was his three sons, Hunter, Gavin, and Garrett. Although he didn’t always live near them, they stayed close through frequent video chats and phone calls.
He loved them fiercely and was very proud of them and their achievements. Bryson will be dearly missed by his large extended family and many devoted friends. He is survived by his parents, Ron and Jan Moore of Layton; his siblings Tim (Heidi) Wheelwright of Pleasant View, Matt (Betsy) Moore of Lehi, Lindsay (P.J.) Germer of Vernal, and Michelle (Henry) Vimahi of Layton; his sons Hunter Moore of Lenexa, KS, Gavin Moore and Garrett Moore of Huntsville, AL; and seven nieces and ten nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their care and expertise, and the staff of Encompass Hospice Care for providing loving care during the last month of Bryson’s life. We are also grateful to the Weber State University Sports Medicine Department for giving Bryson meaningful volunteer work as an athletic trainer with the teams over the past year. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No.
