Franceszka “Frances” Rachel (Harley) Young September 10, 1926 ~ March 10, 2019 Franceszka “Frances” Rachel (Harley) Young, 92, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2019. She was born on September 10, 1926 in Charleston, South Carolina. The second child of Horace Greeley and Barbara Franceszka Ittner Harley, Frances and her four siblings were raised at “The Five Mile”, their family home also serving as the corner grocery store on the rail line exactly five miles north of Charleston.

During WWII Frances worked for the Department of the US Navy as a clerk typist. Following that she served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission. After completing her mission, Frances moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she met Wilford Leroy Young.

They were married on June 1, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They went on to raise a family of four together and had just celebrated their 69th anniversary in the summer of 2018 a few months before Wilford passed away. Throughout those many years they remained devoted to one another, their family, their faith and to their community.

Frances worked for many years in elementary education for Ogden City Public Schools, teaching at Pingree Elementary and later at Hillcrest Elementary School. She retired in 1991 after 25 years, following which she traveled extensively throughout the world. She also volunteered her services at the Ogden Rescue Mission and worked as a Church Service Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Frances valued education and was not only a tremendous educator to her own family but also of great influence beyond the walls of her own home. Her many travels included educational exchanges to distant places around the globe. In Ogden, she freely shared her knowledge with those who were disadvantaged, especially young children who lacked the skills needed for public education.

As a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Frances’ family was always her first priority. She was firm in her parenting, yet created a sense of love and security for her children. Those in the neighborhood who frequently gathered at the Young home also felt this same sense of discipline.

Frances was honest, genuine and “no nonsense”. These characteristics endeared her to many. Also of great importance to Frances was the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This provided a framework of living with strength, purpose and direction throughout her life. Knowledge of the gospel served her well. It serves her now as she continues her education in a life hereafter.

Frances is survived by her children, Thelissa Zollinger, Centennial, CO; Kenny (Beckie) Young, North Ogden; Harold (Creig Paskins) Young, Ogden, and Jane (Lewis) Fowers, also of Ogden; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son-in-law, Gary L. Zollinger. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Lorin Farr Third Ward Chapel, 1570 East 1300 South, in Ogden.

Friends may visit with family on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

The family thanks the kind and professional staff of George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden and Our House Assisted Living Center of Ogden for their expert and loving care. Son, Harold, invites friends to see a Poem for Mom at: www. youtube.com/watch?
