Robert Smith Haws February 2, 1922 ~ March 14, 2019 Robert Smith Haws of South Ogden, Utah, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the age of 97. He was born on February 2, 1922 in Provo, Utah, son of Gilberth Lynn and Evaline Smith Haws. He married Peggy O. Hagan of Spanish Fork, Utah, on June 29, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She passed away in 1988. He then married Edna Robison Knight who he loved very much! Robert was educated in the Provo City Schools and attended the Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Force as a crew member of a B-24 Liberator Bomber in the European Theatre of Operations, stationed in Italy. His plane was shot down and be became a prisoner of war in Germany. Robert was employed as an Engineering Technician with the U.s S. Bureau of Reclamation, Weber Basin Project from 1946 until 1969.

He was also a staff member of Weber State University. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in two Bishoprics and in other stake and ward callings. Robert enjoyed gardening, building, oil painting, and genealogy.

Robert is survived by his wife, Edna; his daughter, Mrs. Paul J. (Ellen) Deamer; three grandchildren, Penny (Eric) Crawford, Marie (Toby) Johnson, and Matt (Crystal) Deamer; ten great-grandchildren, and three stepchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Ora Vance, Lois Muench, Vivian Richins; and a brother, Gilberth. Friends may visit with family on Monday, March 18, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.

Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at George E Wahlen Veterans Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggested donations be made to the George E Wahlen Veterans Home in Robert’s name.
