Fruit Heights, UT – Carol Lee Shreeve Hodson, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dearest friend, returned to her heavenly home on Monday, September 3, 2018, after passing away peacefully in her sleep. Throughout her beautiful 81 year journey, Carol was the embodiment of motherhood, integrity, service, patriotism, love and life-long learning. Carol was born January 31, 1937, in Ogden, Utah to Thomas Leland Shreeve and Melba Russell Shreeve.
She was adored by her parents particularly her father who read to her nightly. Tragically her father suffered a stroke and passed when Carol was only 17, but his legacy of reading and love for books continued on with Carol and was passed on to all of her posterity. Carol would read to her beloved children around the table nightly.
A favorite among the family was when Carol would play the piano and the children would sing their favorite songs from the Sound of Music and Oklahoma. She was extremely well-read and owned a very extensive library. Carol met her soul mate, James Val Hodson while attending Ogden High.
If John Adams had his Abigail, Val had his Carol. Together they raised five children who cherish them as parents. Carol was a progressive thinker, ahead of her time.
She encouraged her children to pursue multiple talents and would find the best teachers in every field. She taught the Cultural Refinement Lessons in Relief Society for over 10 years and was passionate about the arts, taking her children to live theatre, symphonies, opera and museums. At Weber College she studied nutrition.
She ate “clean” decades before it became the fashion. Because of her extensive knowledge people came to her from near and far to learn how they could improve their health and well being though her wisdom and compassion. She admired Nikola Tesla as far back as 1978, 40 years before the Tesla car.
Outside of her family, her passion for politics governed most of her life. If there was a pressing issue Carol insured that her community was in the know with a flyer at each door step. She knew the Constitution and the players around it.
American History was her forte. She received a certificate of appreciation from the State of Utah/Republican Party for decades of faithful service as a county and state delegate for 30 plus years. Above all, Carol loved making memories and history with her own family and encouraging them to heights of achievement.
Carol is survived by her husband: Val Hodson; four children: Stephanie (Kyle) Garrett, Jennifer Whalen, April (Ralph) Sorbonne, Camille (Tracy) Bessinger; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, James Leland Hodson and his wife Kathy Hodson. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No.
Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Friday from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be held at Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood Road, Kaysville, UT.
