MYRNA BOUWHUIS TREMEA March 6, 1937 – August 30, 2018 Mom was born in Ogden, Utah to Albert and Lola Wright Bouwhuis. She was raised in Wilson, Utah, in humble circumstances, yet with much love at home she felt that nothing was lacking. At the age of 18 months she was diagnosed with vision loss and the need for glasses.

She wore glasses every day for the rest of her life. She has two brothers, LeRoy, and Richard. They enjoyed their time growing up in Wilson Lane.

She attended the old Wilson School and was always proud of the fact that the day she started 1st grade her mother also went back to the same school as a teacher. Growing up she was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with almost perfect attendance at all Sunday and weekday activities. She was always willing and eager to be involved in the youth programs and to serve in any calling that was extended to her.

She attended Wahlquist Jr. High, where she met Frank Tremea in the 8th grade. She graduated from Weber High in 1955. During summer, she worked at the Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone.

She often shared her experience about being chased by a bear. She graduated from Weber College with a 2-year degree and went on to complete her Teaching Certificate at Utah State University. After college, she started her career by teaching Kindergarten.

She taught at Lakeview Elementary and then transferred to Municipal Elementary, where she taught alongside her mother. She married Frank, her Jr. High School Sweetheart, on August 10, 1961 in Roy, Utah. They bought a home in Clinton in 1962.

Here they raised their family and lived for 53 years until they moved to Chancellor Garden’s Assisted Living Center in 2016. She loved her home in Clinton, the Clinton 4th Ward, and the friends made there. For 15 years she and Frank enjoyed their winter home in Hurricane, Utah, where they also made many lifelong friends.

After her marriage, she left teaching to support Frank and raise their children. She and Frank were active in the Roy Jaycees for many years. She served as Jaycette President.

This service brought adventures, travels, and friends. Often she would be seen riding her bike, with her children in tow, to Roy Park where they worked in the concession stand. She honored Frank’s strong Italian Heritage and was able to visit Italy on several occasions, the most cherished one being in 2011 when they took their entire family to celebrate her and Dad’s 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Although she didn’t speak the language, she communicated from her heart and made lasting friendships. She and Frank were blessed with 4 children. She was a caring mother and raised them in a loving home.

She taught them the Gospel of Jesus Christ and never faltered in her callings in the Primary and Relief Society. Because of her unwavering testimony, her example, and patience, she was able to rejoice when Frank accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was baptized in 1973. Her joy was made full on March 1, 1974, in the Ogden LDS Temple when she and Frank were sealed for Time and all Eternity.

Their children then surrounded them and were sealed as an eternal family. In 1977, she returned to teaching at Fremont Elementary School in Sunset where she taught 2nd and 3rd grades. She left a positive impression on many children throughout the years.

She was not only concerned about their education, but desired to give them a sense of stability and positive self worth. Chris, her son, as well as two of her grandchildren, were honored to have her as their teacher. She retired in 1996.

If you knew Myrna, you were her friend. She was compassionate and very giving of her time and talents. She was an accomplished Quilter, making sure that every newlywed in the Clinton 4th Ward received a Temple or Rose Quilt.

She crocheted hundreds of flawless afghans, pillows, towels, hot pads, baby blankets, and hats. She could create anything worthwhile and beautiful from a skein of yarn. She was always trying new patterns and blessed the lives of many with her handiwork.

She was an excellent seamstress and knitted with perfection. All of her children, grandchildren, relatives, and numerous friends are blessed to have been a recipient of her love and talents. We will cherish the treasures that were created by her always busy hands.

In her later years, her most challenging frustration was when she forgot how to crochet. This was also heartbreaking for her family. She loved to read and had her own library.

If there wasn’t a needle in her hand, then a book was in her lap. She enjoyed a good game of football, basketball, baseball, cards, or Bingo. Although she only bet with pennies, she always came out ahead.

She would never go to bed at night until all of her children were home. She spent many late night hours waiting up for them. She was always eager to hear the details of their activities.

Her husband, Frank, passed away on December 14, 2017. She has missed him every day since and looked forward to being with him again. She was also preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, and many friends.

Each of her children and grandchildren felt of her love and appreciated her support and encouragement in their activities. Her legacy of love will continue on through her posterity. Her children: Terry and Wendy, Scott and Tanya, Maria Allred, Chris and Michelle; her grandchildren: Jennifer, Addam and Jessica, Angela and Marc Harrison, Talen, Tanner, Briana and Jacob Black, Andrew Allred, Brent Allred, Tayler, Garett, Gavin, and Gage; and her great-grandchildren: Raylan Tremea, Hayley and Emrey Harrison.

She is also survived by her brothers: LeRoy (Joline) Bouwhuis and Richard (Sandra) Bouwhuis. Mom exemplified the titles of: wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandma, great-grandma, friend, and most importantly, Daughter of God. She knew who she was and where her next step was taking her.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Clinton 4th Ward, 2223 North 1000 West. The family will meet with friends Monday, September 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.

We would like to thank the many friends, family members and caretakers that have provided friendship and service to both Mom and Dad throughout their lives. We especially would like to thank the Staff at Chancellor Garden’s Memory Care and Comfort Worx Hospice for their love and support given to her during the last two years. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ogden Trentini Scholarship Fund at Wasatch Peaks Credit Union, or donate a book in her honor to your local elementary school library.
