Obituary for Carolyn Starr Carolyn Starr, age 89 of Glendive, Montana passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Sidney Health Center in Sidney, Montana. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Pastor Nell Lindorff officiating.
Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive hasbeen entrusted with the arrangements. Carolyn was born on April 22, 1929 in Dickinson, North Dakota to Frank and Ella (Haverluck) Shevela.
She was raised and educated in Belfield, North Dakota until she moved with her family to Glendive, where she met her future husband Reuben Starr. They were united in marriage on October 17, 1946 in Sidney and to this union five children were born. Carolyn resided in Glendive most of her life until moving to Savage, Montana a year and a half ago, to be near one of her daughters and later Sidney until the time of her passing.
As a young woman, Carolyn stayed busy raising her family and taking care of their house. In addition to this full time job, she worked as a cook and waitress in several different restaurants and facilities. When the children were older she enjoyed traveling with Reuben for his work.
Carolyn loved her children and later her grandchildren more than anything and time spent with them was always treasured. She enjoyed cooking and gardening in her spare time. Throughout the years many were blessed with the fruits of her labors and memories created together.
Carolyn’s cats were a close second in her heart and her children often joked that anyone would be lucky to come back as one of her cats. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Reuben; one daughter, Donna Ross; two son-in-laws, Andrew Ross and Rick Verhasselt; one brother-in-law, Raymond Martin. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Walth of Halliday, North Dakota and Signe Verhasselt of Savage; two sons, Reuben Jr. (Kim) Starr of Houston, Texas and Daryl Starr of Great Falls, Montana; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a few great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
