Charles “Chuck”‘s Obituary Charles “Chuck” Halstead, age 87, of Backus, and formerly of Gibbon died Monday, February 11, 2019, at Woodbury Senior Estates in Woodbury. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor Erik Karlson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Augustana Lutheran Church. To leave an online condolence for his family, or to sign the guestbook, go to: www. mvfh.org Chuck is survived by his daughters, Judy (Joe Einberger) Halstead of Woodbury and Leanne (Bill) Van Emburg of Lutz, Florida, his son, Jim (Shelia) Halstead of Gibbon; grandchildren, Scott Dickmeyer, Erin Dickmeyer, Larissa Halstead, Jordan Halstead, Jack Van Emburg; great-grandson, Zach Dickmeyer; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ella Halstead; his first wife, Loretta in 1976; his second wife, Leanora in 2013; and his sisters, Beatrice Olson, and Betty McConnell. Charles “Chuck” William Halstead was born on March 1, 1931 in Frederic, Wisconsin to Roy and Ella (Johnson) Halstead. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the English Lutheran Church in Grantsburg, Wisconsin.

Chuck was a 1949 graduate from Brillion High School in Wisconsin. Chuck served his country during the time of the Korean War in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Burton Island.

After leaving the Navy, Chuck was united in marriage to Loretta Ekstrom in 1956. The couple settled in LeSueur and later Arlington and was blessed with three children, Judy, Leanne, and Jim. Chuck later moved the family to a farm in rural Gibbon in 1972 where he owned and operated a dairy farm.

He also worked for several at the Le Sueur Power Plant. After the death of Loretta, Chuck re-married Lenora Dahlke in 1978. In 1994, the couple retired to Backus, Minnesota.

Chuck enjoyed spending time in nature. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and also loved tending to his garden. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren and every moment he got to spend with them.

He was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church. Blessed be his memory.
