Obituary for Charles G. Girard Charles Girard, 88, of Fort Dodge, passed away Saturday June 23, 2018 at the Villa Care Center. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 am. Thursday June 28, 2018 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Deacon Dan Carney will officiate. Charles will be cremated following services and burial will take place at a later date.

Charles Daniel Girard was born on May 12, 1930 in Chariton, Iowa to Charles Girard and Irene Crowe. He graduated high school from Rockwell City in 1947 and attended the University of Iowa graduating with a degree in pharmaceuticals in 1951. He was then drafted into the United States Army until 1953 where he served two years in Korea in the Army Medical Corp.

Charles was united in marriage to Rosemary Hansen on July 21, 1955 in Rockwell City. Charles purchased O’Connell Bros. Drug in 1968 and ran the business for 21 years.

Charles was a lifelong member Sertoma, served 50 years in the American Legion, and sponsored golf many teams at Willow Ridge/American Legion Golf Course. He attended the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on May 11, 2013 with his son, Daniel. Charles enjoyed golfing, rolling dice, and playing his guitar and banjo.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Rosemary Girard of Fort Dodge, IA; sons Daniel & Sue Girard of Belmond, IA and Brian and Linda Girard of Las Vegas, NV; one grandson Nathan Girard and Kendra Blank of Chicago, IL as well as several nieces and nephews. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Louise Girard, and two sweet cats Half-pint and Miss Aggie. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Charles G.
