Obituary for Charles Huston Krueger Krueger, Charles Huston “Mike”, age 79, of Dayton, passed away Friday, July 27th, 2018 after a rich life and a brave battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born June 5th, 1939 to Mildred (Bremer) and Charles H. Krueger, Sr. Mike earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University. He was employed as a civilian engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he enjoyed a long and rewarding career.
Over his career, Mike headed up several of the development labs on base, and he was one of the leading architects of what we now know as stealth technology. After he retired from the Airforce Base, Mike worked as a private consultant for several years. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia Krueger Foster, brother James H. Krueger, and brothers-in-law Daniel A. Walker and Jerry L. Foster.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce (White) Krueger; two daughters, Cynthia Patricia McNamee (Michael) and Julia Catherine Schrodi (Don), both of Sugarcreek Township; seven grandchildren, Vitoria, Charles Huston, Nolan, Erin (George), Robert, Michael, and Daniel; sister, Catherine Walker of Huntsville, TN; and sister-in-law, Kathryn G. Krueger of Johnson’s Island, OH; many beloved nieces and nephews; honorary children and grandchildren; and a large and loving Friend Family, both old and newer. Mike was admired among his family and friends and active in his life. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and racquetball, as well as ping-pong and tennis.
He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton, where he served as an elder, trustee, and on various boards and committees. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Association of Old Crows, and served on the Trotwood-Madison School Board. As an honorary daughter wrote, “Papa made each of us better.
He always stood the tallest in a room, physically and metaphorically, but knew how to make everyone feel as if they were larger than life. His love and respect were revered. Each of us sought his acceptance and respect…wanted to please him.
Papa was a man who did not need or intend to command a room, but did so by his quiet presence. We will miss you, Papa. But, the peace you have now is the only solace to our profound grief”.
We are thankful for the exceptional and compassionate assistance Mike’s caregivers provided lovingly during his illness. You are invited to Mike’s celebration of life on Saturday, August 4th at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Wilkinson Street, Dayton, OH.
