Cheryl D. Kohnke, born May 12, 1954 in South Bend, Indiana passed away on May 26, 2018 at West Bend Nursing facility in South Bend. She fought a brave fight when her health took a turn eleven years ago. She never gave up and bounced back so many times she called herself The Energizer Bunny.

But, in the end, the battle became too fierce for her to overcome. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alice Shank, formerly of Mishawaka, Indiana. She is survived by her sister Christine Shank of South Bend, her son Erik Richmond and her buddy Jack The Cat.

Cheryl grew up in Edwardsburg and attended Edwardsburg High School. She worked as a hairstylist in the area for many years. She also worked in area hospitals as a phlebotomist, work she dearly loved.

She was a creative person and developed great skill in jewelry beadwork. She was self-taught and her work was original and very beautifully done. If you knew Cheryl you never saw her without perfectly styled hair, make-up, stylish clothes and lots of jewelry.

She took great pride in her appearance and we often told her that she didn’t need to fix up to do the laundry. She was quick witted like her dad and always up for an adventure like her mom. She will be missed.

Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend is assisting the family with arrangements.
