Local teacher, thespian, and author Christopher Stasheff passed away on Sunday June 10 from Parkinson’s Disease-related complications. He is survived by one wife, three cats, four kids, five grandkids, 44 novels, and several pounds of coffee. As an author, he was one of the pioneers of “science fantasy” that blended technology and magic.

He published 44 novels (including translations into Czech, German, Italian, Russian, and Japanese), 29 short stories, and edited 7 anthologies. He always had trouble distinguishing fiction from reality, and tried to compromise by teaching college. As a broadcasting professor he was so beloved that decades after retiring, his former students raised money to name the college’s new video control room after him.

As a thespian, he wrote and directed several plays on his way to a PhD in Theater. Here in Champaign, he was best known as an actor in community theater and as a director of radio dramas and school plays. He also kept trying to pre-script his life, but didn’t understand why other people couldn’t get their lines right.

Chris will be remembered for years to come for his kind and gentle nature, his willingness to guide and mentor any who asked, and for his witty sense of humor. His terrible puns, however, will be forgotten as soon as humanly possible. This visitation for Christopher Stasheff will be at Owens Funeral Home on June 21st from 5:00-7:00 PM.

His funeral will be held at Holy Cross Church on June 22 at 10:00 AM”.
