Obituary for Clara Joyner Clara Joyner lived 38,347 days, from October 11, 1913 until October 7, 2018, 4 days short of her 105th birthday. A visitation will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 from 5:30-6:30pm at Strode Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00am on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Stillwater, OK.

Interment will follow at 3:00pm in the Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain View, OK. “Oh, I’ve got it made! ” was Clara Joyner’s response to most questions on her wellbeing.

And it was her outlook on life. She always saw the good in people, saw the positive aspects of every situation no matter how dire, and radiated hopefulness and good cheer. Clara taught music in Mountain View and taught grade school in the Stillwater public school system.

She looked at each student as a unique individual with unique needs. Many former students remember her for her engagement in their learning and their life, and treasure having been in her class. Clara had a foundational love of music, and played the organ, piano, and handbells.

She often sat at her Steinway and played medleys from memory, just for the enjoyment of making music. When she was with her daughter Lynn, she looked forward to fun times playing duets. She was a true follower of Christ and was active in Baptist churches everywhere she lived.

Clara took things as they came, with honesty and clarity about what could be learned from a situation. She wasn’t held down by worry or grief, she knew positive things were ahead and wanted to get on with them. A two-time cancer survivor, Clara remained cheerful during her treatments and never felt shame or sought pity.

She marched ever forward, and now she is with her maker. Clara leaves one daughter and two sons, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and thousands of lives made better by her teaching, example, and presence. We’ll miss you Clara, and we know You’ve Got It Made.
