Julie A. DeYoung, 60, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, October 2, 2018 after an extended illness. Julie was born on February 10, 1958 in Mishawaka, IN to Joseph and Dolores (Koziatek) Siwek. A lifetime resident of the area, Julie was a 1976 graduate of LaSalle High School and later obtained her Associate Degree in Engineering from Notre Dame.

On June 14, 1997, Julie was united in marriage to Garry R. DeYoung, who preceded her in death on March 26, 2017. Julie was employed at Automatic Molded Plastics for 15 years and retired from AM General after 10 years of faithful service. As everyone who knew Julie knows, she was an avid animal lover.

Julie’s horses were her life and she cherished the time she spent raising, training and showing her horses and ponies. Julie was a member of Buchanan Westerners and Indiana Pinto Association. She had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Julie is survived by her siblings: Michael (Pat) Siwek of Grand Rapids, MI, Patricia (Robert) Couch of South Bend, Deborah Cunningham of South Bend and her twin, Mary (Doug) Henion of South Bend. Julie is also survived by her two stepchildren, Holly Harenza of New Carlisle and Michelle DeYoung of LaPorte; step-grandchildren Hayden and Brock Harenza; as well as twelve nieces and nephews. Julie was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 19 years.

Services for Julie DeYoung will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – West Chapel, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend. Friends may call on the family for visitation on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, as well as an hour prior to service on Saturday. Burial to follow funeral service at New Carlisle Cemetery in New Carlisle.
